THE ZONE

The Zone is a unique program, meeting the children where they are literally.  We are a mobile tutoring program going to the student's home, and removing every barrier we can for the child to stay engaged.  Part of our strategy is for students to stay in The Zone long term.  As our families relocate to other parts of the city, we follow the families in our mobile tutoring program. 

The Zone started as a homework club, and has grown into a high-quality whole-child development program. 
 
The Zone is now an innovative program for children taking a whole-child approach.  The Zone includes an individualized academic tutoring and social/emotional learning program.  We provide group and one-on-one remedial instruction.  In addition, we teach mindfulness, emotional regulation, and a restorative justice approach to conflict.  We often incorporate movement as a learning technique and teach in specific ways that we have determined that child needs to be able to learn. 

We work closing with the student's parents, assisting them to advocate for their children while navigating the education system.

In addition The Zone includes a week camp in the summer, Just Kids Week and our Back-To-School-Ready initiative.

As of the fall 2022 this program has unfortunately been temporarily suspended due to lack of funding.  We are hopeful to bring it back in the near future as it is a critical program for the children in our community.
